About Me

Dr Julie Smith

I’m a Clinical Psychologist, online educator, blogger, and owner of a private practice in Hampshire, England. I have devoted my career to learning everything I can about adult mental health and the intricacies of the human mind.

For over a decade, I have been using this knowledge to help people through the worst times in their lives. In my thriving private practice I have the privilege of working with a diverse group of clients from all walks of life, each at different stages of their personal growth. From school leavers, new parents, students to business leaders, entrepreneurs, military personnel, professional athletes and celebrities.

It is my mission to help as many people as I can to thrive. I want to make top quality mental health education accessible online. This means that even those who cannot access therapy can get off to the best start in their recovery journey. No more sifting through endless amounts of misguided advice online that is not based on any scientific research evidence. To find out what the professionals say, this is the place to come.

I am a Clinical Psychologist chartered by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am also a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP)

I love my job and have devoted my career to supporting people through tough times and giving them the best tools available to build resilience and confidence. My extensive clinical background has seen me working across the full range of services during my time in the NHS, from primary care and community work to acute, intensive care wards and crisis teams. I have also provided highly specialist psychological services on an acute ward created exclusively for the Ministry of Defense (MOD).

Why Work With Me

I have extensive clinical training across a range of psychological therapies that I can use to tailor therapy to suit the unique needs of the individual. Everybody is different and everybody’s hard times are different. Therefore, no two therapies look the same. I can offer a safe space for you to work out what you need and learn the unique combination of skills required to help you meet those needs.

My Therapeutic Approaches

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Integrated Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) informed work
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Support For Everyone

I provide many different levels of support. If you don’t have the money for therapy, are unsure if its for you or are not quite ready to see someone yet I have provided free online videos and articles that can help you.

“After a full assessment I only take on the people that I strongly believe I can help and so all of my clients tend to find benefit and put the work in to make real and substantial changes for the better. I am so proud of all of them.”

Dr Julie Smith

“My job is to make myself unnecessary! While it’s natural for people to feel comforted by and slightly dependent on therapy in the early stages, I want to gear my clients up with the self-awareness, self-belief, mindset, skills and habits required for them to feel they no longer need me."

Dr Julie Smith

It’s an absolute privilege spending this time with individuals and developing this unique connection but nothing is more satisfying than when a client says to me ‘I got this’. It’s why i’m so addicted to this special work.” Julie Smith
